Active Aging Fair
Friday Sept 17, 12:30 p.m.–4:30 p.m.
As a finale to Open House week, on September 17, from
12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., you can hear experts speak and talk with local
businesses and nonprofits offering products and services for seniors.
Special Features:
At 1:00 p.m., Arthur L. Weltman, Ph.D., Professor &
Director of Exercise Physiology at U.Va, will discuss how regular exercise
will boost your immune system, lift your morale, and decrease your risk
for most modern ailments from heart disease to diabetes. In the words of
Dr. Ronald Davis, AMA President, “If we had a pill that contained all the
benefits of exercise, it would be the most widely prescribed drug in the
world.”
At 3:30 p.m. Billie Campbell, COO of the Thomas Jefferson
Planning District Commission, will discuss “Liveable for a Lifetime,” a
project designed to offer innovative and affordable ways to make the
Thomas Jefferson District a vibrant, human-scale community for all ages.
If being able to walk to a grocery store, or to a coffee shop to hang out
with friends, or easily take a bus across town without having to cross a
major highway to get where you want to go is important to you, Billie
Campbell’s presentation is a must.
Between events, visit over 30 booths and sign up for
valuable door prizes, including Sunday brunch for four at Branchlands and
a trip to Washington with our Travel Office. Drawings will be held at
2:15, 3:15, and 4:15 p.m. You must be present to win.
Attendees will receive a reusable shopping bag in which to
collect vendor material during the Fair and use later for grocery
shopping, as well as a program with speaker and vendors descriptions and
contact information for easy referral.
