This program is part of the Foreign Policy Association, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring the American public to learn more about the world. University of Virginia Health System Dietetic Interns Allison Ramsey and Dana Cullen will present a cooking and nutritional demonstration that focuses on the theme for National Nutrition Month: “From the Ground Up!” Please join us to learn how to incorporate food you grow in your garden into delicious dishes. Computer Users Group
Monday, March 8, 1:00–2:30 p.m.

Topic:  Safer Driving with Computers

Advances in computer technology are making it much safer to drive -- in ways that most people don't realize. Prof. Richard Kent of the UVA Center of Applied Biomechanics, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, will speak on this, and how computer modeling is improving our understanding of the aging process and its consequences for crash protection. He will discuss the new and future adaptive restraint systems that modulate restraining forces with real-time computing. All are welcome, and refreshments will be available after the meeting.

Charlottesville Humanities Forum
Tuesdays, 1:30–3:00 p.m.

D. L. Rubin, Professor Emeritus of French Language and Literature at UVa, will begin his Winter/Spring session on January 19. The theme is “Changing Places”. Ceramics
Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m–noon

Looking for something fun and creative to do? Join our ceramics class! Our requirement is simple: Show up with a desire to have fun in this therapeutic class. We are now making Christmas trees—the holidays are right around the corner! We are also busy painting kittens, mallards, wolves, and, of course, useful items such as plates, bowls, platters and mugs, which are always in great demand. What a great gift to give when you “made it yourself.” The ceramics are dishwasher and microwave safe, so can be used and enjoyed for years. Class is taught by Novella Mawyer, owner of Lazy Daisy Ceramics, Inc. and The Pottery Paintin' Place.

Back by popular demand, Bryan McKenzie, has started his Qigong class again. Qigong (or ch'i kung) refers to a wide variety of traditional cultivation practices that involve methods of accumulating, circulating, and working with breathing or energy within the body.

Ballroom Dance Lessons with Terry Dean
Tuesdays, 2:00 p.m. -- 2:55 p.m.

Terry Dean, owner of Terry Dean’s Dance Studio, will teach Cha-Cha throughout the month. He has been teaching ballroom dance for over 30 years. For more information, please call Terry Dean's Dance Studio at 977-3327. Beginners welcome, no partner necessary. Register/pay at the Front Desk.

Arthritis Foundation Land Exercise
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10:30 a.m.

Exercise is important for joint motion and muscle strength with arthritis. Instructor Maggie Schmidt leads this entry level class, following the Arthritis Foundation Program, to help those with arthritis get moving again. A chair is used for balance. Register at the Front Desk and get AF form and information for your doctor. Come to class in this carpeted room in comfortable clothing and athletic shoes with stability. Bring a yoga mat if you can get to the floor. Class minimum 6 /maximum 16.
