AARP Driver Safety Program
This program, which used to be called AARP 55 Alive, is the first and
most recognized comprehensive nationwide course designed especially for
the older driver. It takes into consideration the physical changes of the
maturing driver and identifies ways to compensate for age related physical
changes. Course material is based on information gained through research
to determine what is needed in this group to update driver knowledge and
skills . Most important, the curriculum provides opportunities for the
participants to identify individual problem areas and apply information
that is needed to improve their behavior as drivers.
The AARP Driver Safety Program is an eight-hour classroom refresher
course for motorists aged 50 or better who have years of driving
experience. By virtue if Virginia Law, participants will receive a
discount on part of the premium for their automobile insurance. This
discount lasts for three years and can be renewed if the course is
repeated.
